- Are you able to quantify your preparation for PMP?
Of course Yes! If you are asking me how many hours I had spent, I had Thirty or Twenty-five days. So every day, every weekday, I used to spend two hours, one hour in the night, one hour in the morning. In the case of weekends, I used to spend 2-3 of hours extra, it means four to five hours on a weekend. So that is my calculation for a number of hours I spent.
In case of the number of practice questions, I solved maybe, around 400 or 500 practice questions strictly they were based on the different knowledge areas. Once I completed one knowledge area, I used to go to questions to help me revise that knowledge by answering some questions. And last, the number of mock tests that I attempted is only one, I had time for only one. Towards the closure of my preparation, I needed to check if I am in the safe zone, so that is where I attempted the mock test.
And all this material that I preferred, is either PMBOK edition six official guide or the Msystraining material, so the mock test and practice questions were from Msystraining. So, this is the calculation of my preparation.
How useful was Msystraining material in the preparation?
After attempting the PMP exam, in the recall, people often ask me this question. I would always say very useful. You know, there are two features to this question. My core preparation was PMBoK Sixth Edition Official Guide. But, if you look at the PMBoK Official Guide, it is not enough descriptive. So, that is where you need a viewpoint of what it is speaking about.
If you have some examples that will be useful to acknowledge the material much more, so that is where an experienced and reliable training source will come into the picture. So, the training source has to deliver you with that insight and the perspectives. It should help you acknowledge whatever is described in the PMBoK Sixth Edition Official Guide, much more simply with some suitable examples.
So, at that time Msystraining came into the picture; the concept was descriptive- it helped me understand the hints of different things that PMBoK Official Guide was talking. Consider an example, there is a difference between project business document and project documents. The project manager is not able to change the business document, but he can change project documents. Such nuances, you have to understand those things, if you want to attempt the exam; because mainly the questions are based on situations. So, you have to recognize those nuances, so that’s where it’s very useful to have a mentor.
The second aspect is, the material from training sources- they must provide you with practice questions and mock test which are nearly the same to the actual questions that you will see on the PMP; they should be displayed on that. So, it is recommendable look for an experienced mentor. Practice questions that I solved and the mock test that I had attempted from Msystraining were very close to the real exam.
Actually, they had 3 mock tests- I did not have time to go through all three, but I went through 1 mock test and gave it a proper environment of 4 hours’ time, and that mock test was very close to the real exam. That is mock test two.
Mock test 1 is even tougher than the mock test 2; if you are able to do well on the mock test one, you can do well on the PMP. So, the mock test which I have attempted was, 90 percent close to the actual exam. So, it was very useful. Luckily, I remained unsurprised in the examination when I was watching at the questions.
3. How helpful was the Msystraining support team during the preparation?
Marvelous! Whenever I wanted assistance, the support staff at Msystraining were available. During my training I had a lot of doubts, I had questions on the material and all that. So, I needed some kind of teaching. So, they also managed one-on-one coaching for me with one of their professionals, for a couple of hours and that session help out me fine-tune my preparation. They delivered expert advice because I had little time, I had to prioritize my preparation- so, experts also delivered me with a list of vital topics that I should cover first.
So, that is very useful; because number of the questions, there is a weight of questions on some processes or some content is high, you have to know them well. Wherever the breaks were there, I was able to fill up by going back to the other processes, and that helped me line up my preparation. That was the second significant thing, and they also helped me stay concentrate on my preparation by giving their guidance and support.
So, thank you Msystraining team, and I owe this PMP certification to you too.
4. What are the pieces of advice for the day before the exam?
My advice is to relax, eat well and sleep well. Do not go to sleep-deprived of the examination. And also, in my preparation I made some rogue sheets and some notes and revised them; that is it. Have it very light; keep your day very simple and sleep well, that is very important.
